Defendants Clarence Smith and Anthony Scire were convicted by a jury of first degree murder, in violation of LA. REV. STAT. Â§ 14:30(4),1 as a result of the killing of Robert Collins. The jury found Scire had procured and paid for the killing and Smith had constructed an explosive device, affixed it to Collinss pick-up truck, and was paid for doing so. In accordance with the jurys recommendation at the penalty phase of the trial, the court imposed a sentence of death on each defendant.
